Residential Evaporator Coils

Did you know that if your air conditioner would be useless without an indoor coil? It's true...an evaporator coil is required to cool your home when you have a split system, furnace and air conditioner installation.

How It Works
When the air conditioner turns on because the thermostat signals your home is too warm, the air conditioner begins compressing a gas called refrigerant. Compressing refrigerant forces heat energy out of it, which chills it. The chilled refrigerant (now a liquid) is pumped inside to the evaporator coil.

The fan motor in the furnace turns on, and pulls warm air from the home via the return air duct(s). The warm air is forced through the chilled coil. The coil absorbs heat energy from the air which cools it. Water also condensates on the coil during this process, which helps dehumidify the air.

Coil Efficiency
The enemy of coil efficiency is mold. Since the interior of a coil is dark and damp, mold can grow quite easily. This hurts coil efficiency and can also introduce mold spores into your air. A UV lamp installed in the coil will kill efficiency robbing mold.
